so basically i have the worst memory in the world. if for some reason anyone ever follows this blog, you’ll hear me say that a lot. i didn’t forget that i was on wordpress, i just keep forgetting to update/take pictures/upload. bah.

so i just joined the gym and of course, i decided i need a gym bag. for the last couple of days i have been racking my brain and searching all over the internet for a pattern that i liked that i could use. i’m still intimidated by zippers, so to keep stress low, i want to avoid adding the zipper.

this did present some sort of problem since most gym bags have zippers, i suppose. finally i’ve come up with something that i think i will be able to create/love. i’ve been dorking away all day at my desk sketching my gym bag. i’ve got a good idea of where i want to go, but i’m at work so i can’t play around with my fabric. oh well, just a couple more hours.

anyway, there are still a few projects that i haven’t posted yet. i did manage to remember to upload photos for one project that i did a while back. it was inspired by the business card holder that my boyfriend has that is leather. i’ve thought of getting one to keep my business cards in since i got them, but didn’t feel like going to staples and buying one.

so why not make my own?

ignore my business cards. the top stitching doesn’t go the entire way around because i bent my needle since the flannel got a little too thick for the needle i was using. it has three pockets inside. i actually measured the little business card holder my boyfriend has, and used it to draft a pattern. it wasn’t hard to make at all. i think it took me like 30 minutes or even less once i had all of the pieces cut out.

i didn’t use anything to keep it shut, but it doesn’t seem to matter. i also didn’t use interfacing, but something like this didn’t really seem to need it.

i have a couple of other projects that i have made in the past month that i just don’t have pictures of. maybe tonight i’ll remember to take and upload pictures so i can post them here.

strawberry wallet

i’ve needed a simple wallet for a while, since the one i was using was massive and drove me nuts. my mom, while at the thrift store, had picked up this adorable strawberry fabric (i love strawberries), and some red with small white polka dots. i immediately knew that the combo was perfect for my new wallet. i followed the “easy, peasy snap wallet” tutorial on craftster (my obsession), and i think it came out pretty cute, especially since it was only my third completed object!

i used velcro instead of snaps because i didn’t buy any snaps, and honestly i like that the velcro seems so sturdy.

it has some mistakes, but i’m still learning! i have been using it just about since it came off the machine, so i don’t guess the mistakes bother me!

dolphin bag

inspired by a post on craftster.org, and a placemat i had seen at the dollar tree, i wanted to try something slightly different.

this is the placemat, after ripping the two sides apart with the seam ripper.

this is the “good” side of the bag. i didn’t iron it because i wasn’t sure if it would mess up the dolphins or do something strange to the fabric, so i guess i can live with the wrinkles.

this is the “not as good” side of the bag. got a little ahead of myself and didn’t do the greatest job sewing around the top.

it’s not the best, but it’s rather sturdy. the checkered fabric was more that came from walmart that for some reason seemed like it would match the dolphins. i think it does, at least. the bag has a pocket on the inside (that is near impossible to photograph).

i like this bag because even with its flaws, it still looks pretty unique (and not in a real sloppy way).

my first bag

meh, since i have ravelry to keep track of my knitting, why not use this blog for something else i’ve tried out lately… sewing.

anyway, this is my first bag. it took me uh… not very long to make at all. it has a couple of mistakes, but for being my first sewing project ever, i don’t think i can really complain.

this was actually made on February 10, the day after i got my sewing machine. i used cheap fabric i bought out of the remnants bin from walmart, but honestly i wouldn’t have it any other way.

more to come, i’ve made some cute things.

new to this

i’m new to wordpress, but not to blogging. i haven’t blogged in a while though, so getting the hang of it may take a while.

anyway, i think i need a knitting blog just to keep up with everything that i’m doing.

so far two of the christmas stockings are completed. the one for my boss and the one for his wife. i’ve started one of the one’s for my coworkers, but i haven’t been working on it a lot since i have tons of work left to do before the end of the semester. i really want to start trying more complicated things.

we’ll see.
